Associate
Maria Janella Loaiza is an Associate in the Litigation Department of Berkman, Henoch, Peterson & Peddy, P.C. Her practice includes civil litigation, immigration, real estate transactions, estate planning, and municipal litigation in federal court.
Prior to joining Berkman Henoch, Ms. Loaiza founded and operated her own law practice, representing clients throughout New York City, Long Island, and out of state. Her practice included civil litigation, landlord-tenant and foreclosure matters, debt collection, and family-based immigration, including adjustment of status and family petitions. During her practice, she successfully argued an appeal before the New York Appellate Division and appeared before courts in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Kings, and New York Counties.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Loaiza interned for Justice Cleo E. Powell at the Supreme Court of Virginia, worked as a Jury Clerk with the First Judicial Circuit of Hawaii, and later practiced as an associate at a personal injury firm.
Ms. Loaiza received her B.A. in Legal Studies from Saint Louis University in the Philippines at age eighteen and her J.D. from Appalachian School of Law. She is admitted to practice in New York, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, as well as before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Born in the Philippines, Ms. Loaiza speaks English, Tagalog, and Ilokano. Outside of the practice of law, she enjoys singing, playing the ukulele, and exploring New York’s food scene with her husband.
